Student designs program's sign
Thursday, May 31, 2007
Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies recently held an inauguration ceremony for the school's new French Immersion Program sign. The school sign was designed by Austin Bauman, a French immersion
student at Haynes Academy, and Gary Reggio, a local designer.
French students, parents, staff and representatives from the French Consulate in New Orleans and the 'Haut de Seine' French department attended the event.
Haynes Academy participates in the French immersion programs in the Jefferson Parish public school system. The teachers are French natives who teach every subject in French with the goal of making
the children fluent.
"I can tell as a French teacher and educational consultant in Louisiana that immersion education makes students happy," Roxane Coron, a French teacher and Jefferson Parish Educational Consultant
for French and French Immersion, said. "Haynes has a great learning environment -- French library with recent French newspapers and magazine, French Club, French TV (the TV-5 channel) and native
speakers."
To enroll a student in immersion education, call Elizabeth Anderson, supervisor of foreign languages or e-mail Elizabeth.Anderson@jppss.k12.la.us. For information, call the school board at (504)
349-7702.
